Shoichiro Higuchi

Sculptor, urban landscape researcher, public art researcher Born in Hokkaido in 1944. Graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts in 1968. From 1968 to 1970, he was a research student at the Otani Laboratory in the Department of Urban Engineering, University of Tokyo. In May 1969, he won the Grand Prize at the 9th Contemporary Japanese Art Exhibition. In 1970, he moved to the United States and worked at David Spector Architect Office (NYC). Since 1982, in addition to his creative work, he has been interested in public art and public design in Europe and the United States, and in recent years has been photographing and collecting information on a wide range of the latest urban trends, including architecture, bridges, landscapes, and street furniture, including in Asia, and introducing them in books, newspapers, magazines, and newsletters.

樋口正一郎の東京芸術大学彫刻科に在学中(1964~68)は海の向こうのNYCではウォーホール、ポロック、デュシャンなどの新しい美術動向が誕生し、耳目を集めていた。日本でも、若いアーチストたちは自身のアイデンティティを求めて多彩な活動を開始。樋口正一郎はまず素材にこだわった。石や粘土以外のもの:空気、ビニール、テレビ放映画像、ネオン、石膏、木材、合板、紙、帆布、FRP、ステンレス、鉄のスクラップなどを使った大型の作品を制作、展示し、多くの美術評論家の方々の評価を新聞、雑誌で紹介いただいた。21世紀になり、商業主義の画廊での個展を展開にするにつれて、彼自身の作品も変容してきており、このHPでは主に、ここ20年間ほどの作品を紹介している。
